I am blog hopping

I am super new to blogging but the lovely Helen from Funkbunny's Kitchen Garden nominated me to participate in this blog hop thing in spite of my inexperience.

Thanks Helen!

Why do you write?

It actually took a bit of courage to start this blog. I hate getting my picture taken and am pretty time poor so I put off starting a sewing blog for a long time.

But I love reading other people's sewing blogs just as much as I love sewing. Plus a couple of friends, Helen included, kept encouraging me to give it a go so I thought. Yes! Let's do it.

Besides, the sewing community seems really, really nice and I want be part of it. Hello sewing people out there, can I be your friend?

What are you working on?

Oh dear. I recently got my hands on April Rhodes party dress pattern and had the perfect fabric all lined up. But I didn't have enough fabric for the flippy circle skirt no matter how many different ways I tried to cut it.

Isn't this perfect for the party dress?

So then I decided to combine the party dress bodice with Christina Hayes Emery skirt. All good.

But I didn't stop there. Oh no. The dress needs something else, I told myself, so on a whim I decided to use the placket from Megan Nielsen's Briar top (which I bought eons ago and have never, ever made) and add it to the bodice.

I will not show you pictures of my disastrous attempt because I am too embarrassed. Let's just say there is going to be lots of unpicking involved. Still, I am not giving up. As they say in Project Runway, this is my 'make-it'work' moment. I'm sure I can redeem it.

Watch this space.

How does it differ from others in its genre?

It doesn't!

Which is fine by me. I feel like I make a pretty big effort in life. I try really hard to be a good Mum and wife and friend and I care about my work. Sewing is time off for me. It's a creative outlet that doesn't have to be perfect. I just do it because I love it, no other reason. This blog is an extension of that.

How does your writing process work?

As above. I am actually a writer (you can read about some of my writing here if you are remotely interested), but this blog is really about having fun and sharing my sewing with other people who love sewing.

To tell you the truth, I find the whole photo thing the most challenging and I would like to work on improving the quality of the pics on this blog. I am not a photographer by any stretch of the imagination, that much is true.

I think I am supposed to nominate someone to continue this blog hop. But seeing as Helen is the only sewing blogger I know, I will have to skip that one this time around. If anyone wants me to nominate them, let me know.

Thanks for reading.

  1. Hi Winnie, I'd be delighted to be another sewing friend! ;) I'm enjoying seeing your creations appear here and am sure you'll 'make it work' delightfully - or we'll all just be polite and ignore it as we do with our own UFOs... ;)

  2. Thanks for joining in Winnie. I hope you managed to rescue that wadder :) Part of my sewing inspiration comes from you - I remember seeing you in that amazing Minnereau (sp?) and thinking "man, I could never do that" Actually I probably still couldn't but anyway...
